Autumn Gardening

Autumn is a great time to harvest the last of your summer crops. Dig over garden beds now and ramp up your soils health with a feed of chicken manure, mushroom or home made compost. Sweeten soil with a light dusting of dolomite lime.

Plant now for winter crops of spinach, silverbeet, broad beans, peas, rainbow chard, bok choy, carrots, beetroot and cabbage.

Garlic can be planted now. Buy organic bulbs, divide cloves and plant the largest ones with the point of the clove to the top.

Once plants have reached seedling size mulch well to keep soil warm, retain moisture and suppress weeds.
