Herb of the Week – Damiana

Many of you will know this herb because it is often marketed as an aphrodisiac. Damiana, turnera diffusa, is not only used as a sexual tonic. I also prescribe it for depression, anxiety, constipation, for central nervous system support, as a urinary tract antiseptic to ward off infections and a tonic to flagging libidos. The alkaloids in the damiana tincture have a testosterone like effect without the nasty side effects and dangers of synthetic hormone replacement.

Damiana is often sold as a tea by companies marketing ‘happy herbs’ but there is very little, if any, active ingredient in these preparations. If you feel like you need a boost or are wondering if this herb may be helpful to you    call me today to see how I can help you.
